How to Release the Life of God from Spirit to Soul and Body?

9 min read

One of the mysteries of the Christian life is this: God has already made us complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10), yet we still live in bodies that feel weakness, pain, and struggle. We know healing, power, and victory are present in our spirit because Christ Himself dwells there. But how do we release this life into our soul (mind, will, emotions) and body (our physical frame)?

Paul prays for this very reality:

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [that is, separate you from profane and vulgar things, make you pure and whole and undamaged—consecrated to Him—set apart for His purpose]; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete and [be found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (AMP)

This verse shows God’s order: Spirit → Soul → Body. Life begins in the spirit, then flows into the soul, and finally touches the body.

The Deposit of Life in the Spirit #

At the new birth, something extraordinary happened. God did not simply improve us, polish our morals, or give us better behaviour. He deposited His very own life within us. The Greek word used is zoē, which means the eternal, uncreated life of God Himself. This is not human life, but divine essence.

Paul captures this mystery in these words:

“But the one who is united and joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.”
— 1 Corinthians 6:17 (AMP)

This means the believer is not merely associated with Christ but fused into Him, sharing in His life. Our spirit is not a storage room of religious feelings but a living dwelling of God’s presence.

In our spirit, several realities are already complete:

Spiritual DepositScriptureMeaning
Christ dwellsColossians 1:27“Christ in you, the hope of glory” — not a visitor but a permanent indwelling.
Dunamis presentActs 1:8Greek dynamis: miraculous power, ability, divine energy for witness and life.
Healing accomplished1 Peter 2:24Past tense: “by His wounds you were healed.” Healing already exists in the spirit.

This is why we must learn to live from the inside out. The spirit is not the problem — it is perfect, full, and already one with God’s life. The challenge is the soul (mind, emotions, will) and the body, which must yield to what has already been deposited.

The revelation here is stunning: you are not waiting for life to come; you already carry divine life. Every miracle, every grace, every answer is not distant in heaven but present in Christ within. The issue is no longer availability but accessibility.

The Gate of the Soul #

The real struggle is not in the spirit, but in the soul. Our spirit is perfect, joined to Christ, filled with His life and power. But the soul—our mind, emotions, and will—acts like a gate. This gate can either open and let the life of God flow outward, or it can close and block that flow through unbelief, fear, and wrong thinking.

Paul identifies the key in:

Romans 12:2 (AMP)
“And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].”

The mind is the battleground. If the mind is conformed to worldly patterns—negativity, fear, pride, or doubt—the soul blocks what is in the spirit. But when God’s Word renews the mind, the soul aligns with the spirit, and the flow of God’s life is released unhindered.

Peace Flowing or Blocked #

The soul can either block what is already ours in Christ or become a channel that carries divine life into our daily walk.

  • If the mind doubts, the gate closes, and peace stays locked in the spirit.
  • If the mind believes, the gate opens, and peace floods our emotions, decisions, and even health.

This is why Scripture continually calls us to renewal. Renewal is not simply learning more information—it is replacing lies with truth, anxiety with trust, fear with faith. When this happens, the soul no longer resists the spirit but partners with it.

Example:

  • Spirit: contains peace.
  • Soul (mind): worries and doubts → peace blocked.
  • Soul (renewed): believes God’s promises → peace flows to emotions and even to the body.

The Outflow into the Body #

When the spirit is aligned with Christ and the soul yields in agreement, there is a natural outflow of life into the body. Paul makes this very clear:

Romans 8:11 (ESV)
“If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

The key phrase here is “mortal bodies.” Paul is not only pointing to the future resurrection but also to the present reality. Our bodies, though weak, fragile, and subject to decay, can be infused with the life of the Spirit even now.

  • Quicken: The Greek word for “give life” is zōopoieō (ζῳοποιέω), meaning to make alive, to vitalise, to cause to live. This is not just a theological concept but a real flow of divine energy into the human vessel.
  • Energise: The Spirit doesn’t bypass the body; He empowers it. Strength, endurance, and vitality for service often flow from this inner supply.
  • Heal: While not every sickness disappears instantly, the Spirit’s presence can bring restoration, peace to the nervous system, renewal to the mind, and even supernatural healing in the physical frame.

Think of it like this: the spirit is the source, the soul is the channel, and the body is the recipient. If the soul resists, the flow is hindered; but when the soul agrees with the spirit, the body becomes a vessel of divine life.

The Movement of Life #

The body is not an afterthought in redemption. It is included in God’s plan. The same Spirit that raised Jesus is at work in us now — not only to prepare us for resurrection, but to sustain us in daily living.

1 Corinthians 6:19 (AMP)
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God…?”

If the body is His temple, then it is not abandoned — it is honoured by His indwelling and quickened by His life.

How Do We Practically Release This Life? #

The life of God is already in your spirit. But for it to touch your soul and body, you must learn to release it. This is not about striving harder, but about aligning yourself with what God has already done in Christ.

Faith in the Finished Work #

The starting point is faith. Healing, strength, and power are not things you are trying to earn; they are already yours in Christ.

“Blessed and worthy of praise be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.”
— Ephesians 1:3 (AMP)

Faith means you believe you already have it — even if your body has not yet experienced it. You are not begging God to heal; you are receiving what He has already given in Christ.

Renew the Mind Daily #

Your spirit is whole, but your soul — your thoughts, emotions, and will — needs renewal.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed and progressively changed by the renewing of your mind…”
— Romans 12:2 (AMP)

As you meditate on Scripture, your soul begins to agree with your spirit. Speaking God’s Word out loud helps truth sink in. The more your soul aligns with your spirit, the more the life within flows into your body.

Yield to the Holy Spirit #

This is not about self-effort. Trying harder only frustrates you. The flow of life comes by surrender.

“But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature.”
— Galatians 5:16 (AMP)

As you walk in fellowship with Him, His life flows naturally. Just as a branch does not struggle to bear fruit but abides in the vine, so you must abide in Christ and yield to the Spirit’s leading.

Confession and Prayer #

Your words matter. What you confess opens the door of agreement between your spirit and soul.

“For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Saviour], resulting in his justification… and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and confirming [his] salvation.”
— Romans 10:10 (AMP)

Keep declaring God’s truth: “I am healed in Christ. His life is flowing through me. My mortal body is quickened by His Spirit.” Over time, your soul and body will come into alignment with what is already real in your spirit.

Thanksgiving and Worship #

Gratitude is a powerful doorway. When you thank God, your soul softens, and joy rises.

“…for the joy of the Lord is your strength and your stronghold.”
— Nehemiah 8:10 (AMP)

Worship shifts your focus from problems to Christ. It makes your heart tender, your soul receptive, and your body strengthened. A grateful, worshipful spirit creates an atmosphere where the life of God flows unhindered.

The key is alignment, not effort. When the soul agrees with the spirit, the Spirit of Christ releases His life even into your mortal body — bringing quickening, healing, and strength.

Reflection #

The life of God is not something we are trying to pull down from heaven — it is already within. The real journey is removing the blockages of unbelief, fear, and wrong thinking in the soul, so that what is true in the spirit flows unhindered into the soul and body.

As Jesus said:

“He who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Me], as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow continually rivers of living water.’”
— John 7:38 (AMP)

In Christ,
GSS.
