If you ask me, I think life can seem like a real hurry sometimes. One moment, you are enjoying your morning tea and making plans for the day.

The next, you find yourself engrossed in a hundred other things. These include your job, your family, and the mountain of dishes from the food feast you had the night before. Being carried away is a really simple process.

I have been detecting something more subtle as of late. This is something that we overlook if we do not pay attention. God is speaking to us in a whisper, asking that we stay faithful.

Now, do not freak out; this is not about striving to be perfect or doing huge things. For us, the little decisions we make everyday show our commitment to Christ. This remains true even when life becomes chaotic or challenging.

This is something that has been on my mind for a few days now. Faithfulness is not about impressing anybody. It is about persevering and having confidence that God has us in His Son, in Christ.

My walk with Jesus is not just what I do. It is also about who I am becoming as a result of that walk. Indeed, it is like receiving a warm embrace, isn’t it?

Please allow me to express what has been on my mind; I hope that it also lifts you.

According to the Scriptures #

The Bible includes some verses that talk about being faithful. I have found that these words have been calling to me. Moreover, disciples need to show they are trustworthy. They must show faithfulness to the things they are responsible for.

1 Corinthians 4:2 — “In this case, moreover, it is required [as essential and demanded] of stewards that one be found faithful and trustworthy.”

Hebrews 10:23 — “Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word];”

So, even if we are unfaithful at times, we falter, fall and fail. He will continue to be faithful. This means that He will stay true to His word and His good nature.

2 Timothy 2:13 — “If we are faithless, He remains faithful [true to His word and His righteous character], for He cannot deny Himself.”

These lines bring joy to my heart. They assure me that God is not expecting me to behave like a Bollywood hero. I can’t solve everything all at once.

He requires me to dutifully take care of everything He has bestowed upon me. This includes my call, ministry, house, my loved ones, and the tiny things I have to finish every day.

And what is the most exciting part? God does not abandon me. Even if my faith is a little bit shaken, He remains rock solid. Even when I am not faithful, he is always faithful.

Do you agree that this is a huge relief? It is not all on my shoulders; God is keeping me close and watching over me in Christ.

A Problem with the Heart #

What exactly is the point of this unwavering commitment?

I believe that it is something that lies deep inside every one of our hearts. Putting on a show or doing rituals to impress others is not the point. Saying “yes” to God in the ordinary, daily times is crucial. This includes moments when no one is looking.

It is in Mark 12:41-44 that the incident of the widow who offered two very little pennies comes to me. I have been thinking about it.

Mark 12:41-44 — “And He sat down opposite the treasury, and saw how the crowd was putting money into the treasury. And many rich people were putting in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a mite. Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, ‘I assure you and most solemnly say to you, this poor widow put in proportionally more than all the contributors to the treasury. For they all contributed from their surplus, but she, from her poverty, put in all she had, all she had to live on.’”

Although she did not have much—not even enough for her—she gave them her all. Jesus saw her heart, and He appreciated it. This is what we mean when we say that we are faithful. It means giving what we have, even if it seems like little.

It can be straightforward to us. Even after a hard day at work, it is something as simple as assisting your children with schoolwork. Maybe it is saying a short prayer before racing to catch the local train. Or maybe it is something else entirely.

Sharing a plate of samosas or a vada pav with a colleague can be an example. Especially if your colleague is experiencing a bad mood. Even while these things will not win you an award, they are nonetheless important. As the love of God binds them all together, they are the individual threads that make up a faithful life.

This is a question that I have been asking myself: what does dedication look like for me right now?

At other times, it is just a matter of waking up. You need to have faith of the Son of God when the power goes out once again. There are times when patience with others is essential. This happens after they have hurt us. How about you, then?

Why It Is Important? #

There is a possibility that you are wondering, “Why is this faithfulness so important?”

I believe that this is how we become nearer to God. If we continue to be available and continue to trust Him, it will change us. Even choosing Him in the smallest of ways has an impact.

The process is like sowing a seed in your garden. It begins as a little plant. It consists of nothing more than some soil and a glimmer of hope. With the course of time and proper care, it develops into a large tree that provides shade and fruit. It is God who is responsible for its growth, but we have the ability to feed it by being loyal.

Moreover, faithfulness is not just for ourselves; it also brings blessings to other people. I show my love for the kids in our fellowship by praying for them. I also talk to them when they are anxious about their upcoming examinations.

This happens even if I have not yet seen the outcomes of my prayers. Joy is shared through faithfulness. It is much like the aroma from the kitchen. It resonates with everyone in the vicinity.

Being loyal, even in the smallest of ways, is something that matters to others. It inspired me to continue being faithful.

Is it possible for us to start to feel a little overwhelmed?

Do not be concerned; we will not have to do everything at once. Being faithful does not need having a huge plan; rather, it requires doing things one step at a time.

Here are some suggestions for everyday activities to start with:

• In the morning, before you get your tea, pray to the Lord. Ask for his help and trust him. It is short, but it will put your heart in the proper place.
• Assisting at Home: After supper, you can wash the dishes. Do this even if it is not your time to do so. Bring a smile to your face and do it; it is a modest gift to your family.
• Have a Kind Heart: Thank the person who drives the car. Give the delivery person a glass of water. You show God’s faithfulness through the smallest gestures of kindness that you do.
• Listen/Read to a Verse or a passage: Select a Bible verse or a passage. You can choose from the ones listed above. Read it before going to bed. Meditate on it. Repeat it. Memorize it. Wait for it to settle in, even if you are feeling tired. Pray to the Holy Spirit to help you understand it.

Now, I am the one who is doing this. On some days, I commit to writing down things and praying for them. This is not a fancy thing, but it helps me keep going. Moreover, the mercy and grace of God can pick me up again whenever I forget.

Is there a single, manageable step that you can try today?

Saying “sorry” to someone you snapped at or helping someone in need are examples of self-control and love. A “yes” to God is all that is required; it does not have to be a huge thing. Everything adds up, step by step, in the end.

Final Thoughts #

This is what I am learning: faithfulness is not about how much we do. Rather, it is about how much we rely on God through Christ in us. He is the One who has already done everything for us.

He is faithful and he is faithful forever. Even in the most difficult of times, he never fails to deliver us. We discover the strength to keep going on. We do this one day at a time. We continue to put our faith in Him.
