Renewing Your Mind #
One more key to fighting against all odds in life is renewing your mind. God may be refreshing your perspective and that is possible only by renewing our minds. God may want you to rethink the values and reasons that drive you in life. There was a point in my life when I was having a hard time understanding what God’s will was for me and how it related to my own life.
At a point in my life, I was aware that I had been called, but I was uncertain and irritated about the nature of my calling. At the time, I was ignorant of the fact that I needed to study the will of God.
David said,
Psalms 143:10 — Teach me to do what pleases you, for you are my God. May your kind presence lead me into a level land.
One must put forth some effort to educate themselves to be in the will of God. You will need to have some things explained to you and taught to you. A change in mindset is required for the transition to be successful.
Romans 12:2 — Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.
Submit To The Father’s Will #
If you do not initially submit yourself to the plan and the will of God, you will never know what God wants from you. You may do this by submitting yourself and your life to God as a sacrifice, being prepared and willing to do whatever He wants of you at that time. That is something that can’t be expected of everyone.
There was a point in my life when I did not feel prepared to undertake what needed to be done. It is not that I was not serving God; in fact, I believed I was doing a very good job of it. When I was able, I offered my assistance to the ministry in different churches, and I made sacrifices for the sake of the Kingdom. I never missed an opportunity to teach or preach, and I was active in the outreach ministry.
Everything was going swimmingly until I became ill with a terrifying illness. It was not the flu, but it was still quite frightening. Even though I was in my thirties at the time, I was terrified that I was going to pass away. I was subjected to a battery of examinations that lasted for around a quarter of a year.
Reconsider Your Choices #
When you suddenly get ill at a young age, you start to reconsider some of the choices you have made throughout your life. I had believed that I was operating within God’s will; yet, it was around this time that I first started to have doubts about my vocation and whether or not God was really with me. I did not realise it at the time, but God was prompting me to reassess the way I thought about things and the order in which I put things in my life. I had the impression that my devotion to God was complete, but later I discovered that this was not the case.
There was still a sliver of the world trapped inside of me, and it was time for it to emerge. God was instructing me in His ways and revealing His will, and God was altering the way I thought. I had to make it a priority to learn how to put God first in all aspects of my life. It was not until I gave my whole being to God as a sacrifice that I was able to start seeing how God’s will for my life was going to be carried out.
My physical body was put through its paces, but at the same time, my spiritual self was able to absorb valuable lessons from the experience. My life went through a testing phase at that time. Some people want God to spell everything out for them in bold letters so that they may decide whether or not they agree with Him and then give Him their affirmative or negative response accordingly.
Handwriting For Us #
That is not how it works at all. God did one better than that; He put His handwriting in a book called the Bible. When you present yourself to God as a living sacrifice ready to do His service regardless of what it may be, then God sees that and responds to that. The mind gets refreshed in the process that is taking place here. You are no longer concerned with the things that this world has to offer. You are mainly concerned with doing what is right in the eyes of God and pleasing him. If you give up more and more of your life for God, you will grow closer to him. You will eventually be able to tune in to God’s frequency, and then God will begin to talk to you via His Spirit and His Word, and you will be able to comprehend what it is that He is telling you. Everything is brought into sharp focus.
When the adversary has you encircled on all sides, it seems to be a great deal more difficult to perceive His will since the enemy has caused you to become blinded by themselves. David was the only person who knew this fact better than everyone else; he had a lot of enemies.
Same Mistakes #
Do not make the same mistake as Job and assert that God has forsaken you since this is not the truth. Read Psalm 27 when you get the impression that the adversary is gaining the upper hand. This psalm is an incredible statement of how God elevated David up above his foes when he was in the middle of a war sometimes fighting for his life.
This psalm has many verses, and one of them says,
Psalms 27:11 — Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of my enemies.
If you just ask God to guide you, He will show you a way through His Holy Spirit living inside of you, that is easy to understand and follow. It is a process of education; if you genuinely want to know God’s will, you should ask Him to teach you His will, and if you do so, He will show it to you.
