The Calling Of God #

Anything else you try to do will make you extremely uncomfortable and unpleasant. To fight against all odds, you must understand that the calling of God is valuable, precious and serious. Because of the pressure, it exerts on them, some people who have been dubious of their calling eventually conclude that it is their calling.

Some people, like Jonah in the Old Testament, may attempt to run away from their calling; nonetheless, they will not be able to conceal themselves from it. Jonah discovered that ignoring the call of God resulted in a life that was, to put it mildly, exceedingly unpleasant.

You will continue to have a profound sense of emptiness unless you begin to answer the call that God has placed on your life. After you have been called, you will always be called, and there is no turning back from your calling. It is more likely that God will take your life than it is that He will remove the calling from your life.

Romans 11:29 — For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable. 

Peter was able to discover this fact. The mission that God had for his life was very obvious. Jesus told him this in a close conversation. There was no room for doubt in that regard.

Matthew 16:18-19 — And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven.” 

It is challenging to walk in your calling when it seems like everything seen and unseen is conspiring against you.

Peter had a complete dedication to Jesus and to the mission that God had for His life. He had no idea what was ahead or how challenging things were going to become for him. Jesus even attempted to clarify the situation for him.

Luke 22:31-34 — “Simon, Simon, pay attention! Satan has demanded to have you all, to sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. When you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” But Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!” Jesus replied, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know me.” 

Moment Of Transition #

Peter was so certain that he was living out the will of God for his life that he informed Jesus that he was ready to lay down his life for Him. After making that assertion, he had no idea that he would be questioned on it within a few short hours after saying it. Peter’s behaviour started to change in the garden when the soldiers arrived to take Jesus away. This moment marked the beginning of the transition.

This was not something that was meant to take place, and Peter had not agreed to be responsible for this. This marked the beginning of a period for Peter that would be filled with a great deal of concern. According to scripture, he started following them from a distance as they left their home. Peter was not the kind of person to do anything like that; rather, he was the one who was consistently in the middle of everything that was going on.

As the day goes on, the circumstances get ever more precarious. Peter is said to have denied the Lord three times in around two hours. His response was distinctive in comparison to that of some of the other disciples on that terrible day when they were all there. After Jesus was crucified, he was more perplexed than he had ever been before.

Peter had already rejected Jesus three times, and now that Jesus was dead, he believed that he had no further business following Jesus’ teachings. It seemed as if the whole of Hell was plotting against him. Peter decided to flee from God. Even after that, Jesus brought together a number of the disciples, and the group resumed their previous occupation of fishing.

Familiar Things #

Peter was searching for some solace and tranquillity in his life, so he turned back to the things he was familiar with. Peter was naked while he was in the boat.

This information provides us with insight into his state of mind. Things were not going well, and Peter’s thinking was not in a reasonable state. He was unhappy; he was acting strangely, and as a result, they did not catch any fish despite fishing all night. Peter was called by God, and he would be unhappy if he pursued any other line of work; thus, returning to his previous life was not an option.

Those who reject the calling that God has placed on their lives will lead lives devoid of ease and fruitless endeavours. The trouble that Peter was having started in his head; he persuaded himself out of pursuing his calling.

Jesus thankfully found Peter and instructed him to put his faith in him in a way that he had never done before. On the beaches of the Sea of Galilee, Jesus found Peter and led him back through his denials. Eventually, Peter repented and returned to following Christ.

A few weeks later, on the day of Pentecost, Peter delivered the first sermon that the Church ever heard. If Peter had kept trying to hide from God, he would have spent the rest of his life in utter torment. Despite the difficulties we face, we have to have the ability to put our faith in God and the purpose He has for our lives. There is no chance that Jesus will physically appear on the beaches of your life, but we do have something that is considerably more beneficial than that.

Sure Word Of Prophecy #

2 Peter 1:16-20 — For we did not follow cleverly concocted fables when we made known to you the power and return of our Lord Jesus Christ; no, we were eyewitnesses of his grandeur. For he received honor and glory from God the Father, when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory: “This is my dear Son, in whom I am delighted.” When this voice was conveyed from heaven, we ourselves heard it, for we were with him on the holy mountain. Moreover, we possess the prophetic word as an altogether reliable thing. You do well if you pay attention to this as you would to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you do well if you recognize this: No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet’s own imagination, 

Peter was saying that even though “we were eyewitnesses of His majesty,” “we saw Him transfigured on the mountain,” “we saw Him resurrect the dead,” and “we were with Him in Galilee,” we also have “something greater than that,” which is a “sure word of prophecy.”

It is quite intriguing to me that Peter was the one who wrote this since Peter did not return to Jesus until he met Him in person on the beaches of Galilee. This makes the fact that Peter was the one who wrote this very interesting to me. Peter would understand, more than anyone else, how to discern the will of God despite being assailed by the adversary more than anyone else.

Scripture is our authoritative word of prophecy; it is superior to what Peter had because we can read it every day of our lives, and it enables us to know with absolute certainty what the Lord expects of us and how we should behave.
