Bible Reading — 1 Kings 19:1-10 #

1 Kings 19:3 — Elijah was afraid, so he got up and fled for his life to Beer Sheba in Judah. He left his servant there…

From what everyone said, Elijah had just finished a great revival. The false prophets of Baal had been thrown out, and Israel’s people had sworn allegiance to the real God. Elijah prayed for a long drought to end, and God heard him (1 Kings 18). But Elijah didn’t trust the Lord, who had made all these good things happen; instead, he ran away. Why?

The Weight of Fatigue and Fear #

We’re just too tired to stay where we are sometimes. Sometimes, fear and resistance can make it seem easy to give up, even when we’re doing well. Maybe life’s unknowns are too much for you, or you feel like you can’t handle another day with a bad relationship.

Or perhaps you’re just tired and think that getting away, either physically or mentally, will make things better. Many times, though, we miss the lessons God wants us to learn about ourselves and his care when we try to avoid them.

God’s Gentle Presence in Our Flight #

God wants to meet us when we run away, which is good news. He kindly asked Elijah, “What are you doing here?” God told Elijah that he would be with him and keep working, even though he was hurt and scared.

Finding Rest in Christ #

God has done even more by coming to us in Christ. You might want to run away when you’re tired, but let Christ lead you back home to rest in him.

A Prayer for Guidance and Rest #

Loving Father,
I come to You, I’m tired, heavy, and stressed out from all the problems in my life. My spirit feels weak, and my strength is going away. Still, I know that You are my safe place, my strong tower, and my constant help when I’m in trouble. Lord, please take my hand and lead me through this time of tiredness and doubt.

Give me the peace that my mind can’t comprehend and the strength to keep going even when I want to give up. Always help me trust Your great plan, even when I can’t see how to get there. Remind me of how much You love and care for me, and let me rest in your company.

May Your kindness heal my heart, your peace calm my worried thoughts, and your promise that You are with me all the way. I give You all my worries, fears, and questions because I know You care about me and will never leave me. I pray in the most high name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Blessings,

Shaliach.
