We Can Always Rely on God

Bible Reading — Matthew 15:21-28 #

Matthew 15:28 — Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, your faith is great! Let what you want be done for you.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.

Jesus and his followers were in a place where most people did not worship or respect God in the story we are going to tell today. It’s possible that the disciples would have felt uncomfortable there because they didn’t know the customs and culture of the area. The next person they met was a mother whose daughter was possessed by a demon and suffering horribly.

Jesus’ Challenging Response #

It’s hard to understand how Jesus reacted to her. What did he want to say to everyone who was listening? Was he testing her? As someone who wasn’t Jewish, he told her that she wasn’t the most important part of his mission.

The Woman’s Determined Faith #

While her daughter was in pain, she stayed determined in her search for help. This is what she said, “…but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Jesus also praised the woman’s faith and healed her daughter “in that same hour.” Thank you, Jesus!

Witnessing Where God is Already Working #

We sometimes think that sharing the gospel is about bringing Jesus into our conversations and relationships when it’s not. On the other hand, this shows us that God is always ahead of us. Already, the woman was becoming more and more sure that Jesus was her only real chance. To be a witness, you need to be able to see where God is already working and be happy about it.

Let the Holy Spirit help you become a strong witness of Jesus Christ.

Reflection Question #

What do you think is the best place for God to move forward and spark people’s faith, questions, and longings?

Prayer #

Lord Jesus, help us see how you are already at work in the places we visit today and where we live. We need your help, wisdom and strength to answer to the great work your Spirit is doing. Amen.

Blessings,

Shaliach.
