Acts 1:8 — “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses. . . .”

The words “You will be my witnesses…” that Jesus said to his disciples just before he ascended to heaven are very important. As his witnesses, we testify that Jesus Christ is Lord of all.

I don’t know about you, but I find this to be a very difficult work, particularly in light of Jesus’ command that our testimony should start from where we are and go to the ends of the world.

Could you use someone like me as a witness? #

I am grateful that I am not in this alone. Along with his commission, Jesus assures us that we will be anointed with his Holy Spirit. In addition, he gives us, his disciples, collaborative commissions. Doing this as a team is our mission.

This month, we will discuss many ways that we might testify about Jesus. Daily, I see loyal witnesses at work in every sphere of life. In every corner of the globe, the Spirit is thriving.

Jesus, as we seek to understand our role as witnesses for you, we pray that we may be receptive to your call. Pour forth your Spirit on us and show us the way to maturity as your witnesses. Amen.
