Bible Reading — Galatians 5:16-26 #

Key Verse:

Ephesians 5:17-18 — For this reason do not be foolish, but be wise by understanding what the Lord’s will is. And do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit.

Those without Christ do not have any hope for eternal life with Him. When one loses hope, it is easy to fall into the temptation of leading a life that is unhealthy, maybe dangerous and perhaps deadly. For example, the Bible gives a warning regarding drunkenness. Apart from being a temptation for nonbelievers, alcohol might also be one for believers.

Walking in the Spirit #

God encourages people who believe to live in the Spirit with wisdom. When we believe in Christ, we hope to be with him forever; the Holy Spirit assures us that this desire is right. The Holy Spirit helps us to walk in joy, peace, and love the results of our lives right now.

Regularly allowing the Holy Spirit to fill us will help us to develop the fruit-bearing nature of the Holy Spirit and guard against emotions of discouragement or boredom, both of which may cause a range of excesses.

Being Filled with the Spirit #

Those who drink too much wine or other kind of alcohol act in a rather inappropriate way. Still, the power of the Holy Spirit allows us to distance ourselves from ourselves in a rather reasonable way. As Paul notes in 2 Corinthians, we are to “be filled with the Spirit.”

Every believer has a daily need for the want to be pleased. We can and should maximise this advantage. Should we neglect this precaution, we run the danger of tiring ourselves trying to live as good Christians of our own free will. One cannot lead a real authentic Christian life without the direction of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer #

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for coming into our lives as the counsellor that Christ had promised. In order for us to be able to yield the fruit of a life that is full of you, we pray you to guide us in all things. Amen.

Blessings,

Shaliach.
