Bible Reading — Hebrews 4:11-13 #
Key Verses:
Hebrews 4:12 — For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.
To start the process of opening up a patient, a surgeon needs the use of a scalpel. As a means of gaining a better understanding of a condition that exists inside the patient, the surgeon performs this procedure.
The Word of God as a Scalpel #
The book of Hebrews describes the Word of God as being “sharper than any double-edged sword.” In the society that we live in, it could be hard to understand this image of a sword. The concept of a scalpel may be a little bit simpler to understand. A scalpel can open us up and disclose what is going on inside of us.
God’s Word Reveals and Judges #
As this word encourages us to “make every effort to enter [God’s] rest,” we quickly discover the reason why we need to pay heed to that warning: “for the word of God is living and active.” It is impossible for anything to remain concealed from God’s gaze since the all-powerful and all-knowing God is familiar with each one of us.
Responding to God’s Call #
There are times when we make an effort to conceal and cover up the sin that is present in our lives. But there is nothing that God does not know. And the Word of God discloses things to us and inside us that we would consider to be private or concealed. Consequently, it reveals the truth about ourselves.
It is our responsibility to make every effort to enter into the rest that God has prepared for us; we must continue to follow the Lord and not become resistant to him.
By use of his Word, God directs our steps. Through his Word, God convicts us of the truth through the power of his Spirit and guides us to live by the path of love, sharing his kindness and the good news that he has for us with others.
Blessings,
Shaliach.
