Key Verse:
Luke 1:46-47 — And Mary said, “My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Savior…”
Joanne’s Joyful Song of Praise #
My music student Joanne is learning to play the electronic keyboard. She often starts singing without warning. Not like someone singing a happy song from the past, no. Joanne will sing and praise loudly when she is pleased. Every class, she shows how kind and good God is.
Learning from Mary’s Magnifying Song #
Luke 1 says Mary sang a song of praise. She sang “My soul praises the Lord” because God chose her to carry Jesus Christ, the world’s Saviour. Some translations say, “My soul magnifies the Lord.”
One way to make something bigger is to use a magnifying glass. Mary showed us how to lose ourselves so Christ could grow in and through her by the Spirit of God.
John the Baptist later said,
John 3:30 — “He must increase, but I must decrease”
What’s your song? #
Do you have a song that makes you think about how big God, the world, and Jesus’ love are? What songs of praise does God want you to sing to honour him?
Pray #
Heavenly Father, Like Mary, you gave us a song to sing. It is a song of praise and victory. In everything we do today, we honour, magnify and glorify you, in the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.
