SCRIPTURE READING — JOHN 1:1-4, 14 #

Genesis 1:3 — God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light!

According to the Bible, the account of human history starts with a man, followed by a woman. The narrative of Jesus’s life on earth starts with a lady named Mary. And then the story starts with Jesus Himself, when He was only a baby.

It is really a beautiful image to think of Mary holding the newborn Jesus as He is all wrapped up in His blankets. But consider the following: Jesus is the everlasting Word, the Word through whom all was created, the Word who spoke, “Let there be,” which caused everything to come into being. . . ” But now the Word has taken the form of a human being, a brand new infant. Do we understand the implications of this? It indicates that the Word is no longer able to communicate.

Baby Jesus, just like any other infant, does not yet understand words. First and foremost, He will need to pay attention to His parents, particularly His mother but also His father. He will slowly learn that words have meanings as time goes by. At some point in the future, He will begin to talk for Himself. At first, the only words he will be able to say are “Mother,” and “Father.” After then, a deluge of words will start pouring out, and it will not stop till the end.

Imagine: The Word, which was heard from the very start, has now become silent. It is necessary to go all the way back to the beginning of our existence as humans. And it must learn in the same manner that we did, taking one word at a time.

The gift of language is an incredible one. And Jesus has given it to us to share.

Lord, if not to you, to whom else should we focus our attention? You are in possession of the words that provide life forever. You are the Word, who gives life to all else. Amen.
