As Christians, we are called to live out our faith in every area of our lives, including the workplace. Here are some practical ways to use your skills as a believer to make a positive impact in the marketplace.
1. Embrace Integrity #
As Christians, we are called to live a life of integrity. Proverbs 11:3 says,
“The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.”
This means that we should always strive to do what is right, even when no one is looking. In the marketplace, this means being honest in our dealings, treating others with respect and fairness, and being a person of our word.
2. Show Love and Compassion #
One of the most important aspects of our faith is love. Ephesians 4:32 says,
“And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”
As we interact with our coworkers, customers, and clients, we should strive to show them the same love and compassion that God has shown us. This means being patient, kind, and understanding, even in difficult situations.
3. Use Your Skills to Make a Difference #
As Christians, we all have unique skills and talents that we can use to make a difference in the world. 1 Peter 4:10 says,

4. Seek Wisdom and Guidance #

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
In the marketplace, this means seeking God’s will for our work and using prayer and discernment to make decisions. By seeking God’s guidance, we can be confident that we are making the right choices and that our work is pleasing to Him.
Being a Christian in the marketplace is about more than just doing our jobs well. It’s about living a life of integrity, showing love and compassion, using our skills to make a difference, and seeking wisdom and guidance from God. By doing these things, we can make a positive impact on those around us and glorify God in all that we do.
5. Prioritize Relationships #
As Christians, we are called to prioritize relationships with others above all else. This means valuing the people we work with as individuals made in God’s image and taking time to invest in those relationships. It may mean putting aside personal ambitions in favour of serving others or making time for coworkers who are struggling.
“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” – Philippians 2:3
Paul reminds us to prioritize our relationships with others, putting their needs and interests before our own. This is especially important in the workplace, where it can be easy to become focused on personal goals and ambitions. Instead, we are called to value our coworkers as individuals made in God’s image and to invest time and energy in building relationships with them. 6. Be a Good Steward #
Another aspect of living out our faith in the marketplace is being a good steward of the resources we have been given. This includes managing our time, finances, and talents in a way that honours God. By doing so, we can demonstrate to others the value of responsible stewardship and the importance of making ethical business decisions.
“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” – 1 Corinthians 4:2
Paul reminds us that as stewards of God’s resources, it is our responsibility to be faithful in managing them well. This includes using our time, finances, and talents in a way that honours God and furthers his kingdom’s purposes. As Christians, one of our primary responsibilities in the workplace is to share our faith boldly and confidently with those around us. This means being willing to speak up about our beliefs, share our personal testimonies, and to offer a listening ear to those who may be seeking spiritual guidance.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…” – Romans 1:16
Paul declares his confidence and boldness in sharing the gospel of Christ with others. As Christians, we are called to follow his example, recognizing that the message of the gospel is powerful and life-changing for all who believe. By sharing our faith boldly and confidently in the workplace, we can be a witness for Christ and can demonstrate the transformative power of the gospel in our own lives.
In all of these things, the key is to remember that our work is ultimately about serving God and serving others. 8. Be a Peacemaker #
As Christians, we are called to be peacemakers in the workplace, seeking to resolve conflicts and build bridges between coworkers whenever possible. This means being willing to listen to all sides, offering forgiveness and grace, and working towards solutions that benefit everyone involved.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” – Matthew 5:9
Jesus declares that peacemakers are blessed and will be called sons of God. As Christians, we are called to follow his example and to be agents of peace and reconciliation in the workplace. “Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification.” – Romans 15:2

We come before you today with grateful hearts, thanking you for the many blessings you have bestowed upon us. We thank you for the skills and abilities you have given us, and for the opportunities we have to use them in the marketplace. We ask that you would guide and direct us as we seek to live out our faith in this setting.
We pray that you would help us to prioritize relationships with others, be quick to listen and slow to speak and value the people we work with as individuals made in your image. Help us to be good stewards of the resources you have given us, managing our time, finances, and talents in a way that honours you.
We ask that you would help us to be bold witnesses for Christ in the workplace, sharing our faith with others in a way that is respectful and winsome. Help us to be peacemakers, seeking to resolve conflicts in a constructive and respectful manner. Give us the humility to recognize our own weaknesses and to learn from others, and the desire to build others up rather than tearing them down.
We pray that you would use us to make a positive impact in our workplaces and communities, demonstrating your love and grace to those around us. Help us to be faithful and effective witnesses for you, and to bring glory to your name in all that we do. We pray all these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
